“The trouble with our times is that the future is not what it used to be” - Paul Valery.
When I try to look into my crystal ball, it’s often cloudy! Instead, Symbolically Speaking I always look at my life and my business using the metaphor of driving a car.
You see, a car has a rearview mirror, which we sometimes view through rose tinted glasses. Hence, “The trouble with our times is that the future is not what it used to be”. We think in terms of should have, could have and if only if.
Except, the rearview mirror should be used mainly while reversing. For remembering past learning curves.
The side mirrors are for short glimpses to view the traffic on either side of us. To see what other countries (globally and locally) or companies (our competitors) are doing. PS: Don’t spend too much time looking out of the side mirrors. You’ll crash the car, your life and your business!!!
It is our front headlights that are comparable to our Vision and Values that guide us along the road of life and business. Ensure your headlights always shine brightly.
The front grill always reminds me to “Smile”.
We all need to look towards the future. A certain amount of strategic planning, a marketing plan and budgeting is essential for our personal lives and business success.
But, the most important part of the car is the driver. You can have a car with exceptional design and engineering with a bad driver. Or a “skadunks” with a Schumacher? The driver is YOU!
Remember that YOU are the driver of your own destiny. The choice to drive in the “NOW” or to keep looking in the rearview mirror is yours alone. While external global and national events may not always be to our choosing - Our response and actions are always within our control.
“The trouble with our times is that the future is not what it used to be”.
The “NOW” of today is tomorrow’s future in the making - the choice is yours …
Till next month,
Drive safely - Arrive Alive,
Pearl Seigel
